Policy

Environmental and Sustainability

Alexander Baker trading as @thatbakerface recognises that travel, energy use, electronic equipment, consumables, digital services and event activity can affect the environment. The business aims to reduce avoidable impacts through practical and proportionate measures.

Principles

  • Comply with applicable environmental and waste requirements.
  • Prevent waste where practical before considering reuse, recycling, recovery or disposal.
  • Use energy, materials and transport efficiently where this is compatible with safe and effective delivery.
  • Consider whole-life value, repairability and durability when purchasing equipment.
  • Make environmental claims only where they are specific, supportable and not misleading.

Equipment and purchasing

  • Maintain and repair serviceable equipment where this is safe and economically reasonable.
  • Avoid unnecessary replacement and duplicate purchasing.
  • Choose efficient, durable or lower-impact products where they meet operational requirements and represent reasonable value.
  • Consolidate orders and hire or share specialist equipment where this is more practical than ownership.
  • Use rechargeable batteries and reusable accessories where suitable.

Energy and digital services

  • Switch off or place equipment into appropriate low-power modes when not required.
  • Use efficient settings and avoid leaving high-consumption production or event equipment operating without a purpose.
  • Reduce unnecessary duplicate storage, transfers and rendering where this can be done without compromising resilience, quality or contractual needs.
  • Use digital documents and approvals where practical, while retaining paper records where legally or operationally useful.

Travel and logistics

  • Plan journeys and loading to reduce avoidable mileage, repeat trips and failed deliveries.
  • Combine activities or use remote meetings where this is effective.
  • Use public transport, shared travel, lower-emission options or local suppliers where practical for the people, equipment, location and schedule involved.
  • Safe transport, reasonable working hours and reliable service take priority over unsuitable travel choices.

Waste

  • Prevent waste and reuse packaging, cables, cases and consumables where safe and appropriate.
  • Separate recyclable materials where suitable facilities exist.
  • Dispose of batteries, lamps, electrical equipment, data-bearing devices and hazardous materials through appropriate routes.
  • Use licensed waste carriers or recognised take-back schemes where legally required.
  • Securely erase or destroy data before disposing of storage devices.

Events and client sites

The business will follow reasonable venue waste, energy and environmental procedures communicated before or during the work. It will avoid unnecessary single-use materials within its control and will co-operate with clients and other suppliers on proportionate environmental measures.

Suppliers and claims

Environmental factors may be considered alongside price, quality, safety, availability and reliability when selecting suppliers. The business will not claim carbon neutrality, net zero, zero waste or formal environmental certification unless that claim is current and supported by adequate evidence.

Responsibility and review

Alexander Baker is responsible for this policy. Priorities will be reviewed when equipment, travel patterns, premises, services or legal requirements change materially.
